Mayor Bill de Blasio visited the grand opening of Gino Sorbillo’s Pizzeria this evening. de Blasio spent about 25 minutes at the newly opened restaurant, chatting with Sorbillo, putting a pizza in the oven and indulging in a couple of Neapolitan slices from the well-known Italian pizza purveyor.
Today de Blasio ate his slices with his hands, quietly abandoning his knife and fork method. In January 2014, just after taking office, de Blasio famously used a knife and fork to eat pizza and inspired a continuing stream of jokes and jibes. When I asked about his switch today de Blasio smiled and said only “I’m following my host.”
